Create your own Miracles..

"Anyone who doesn't believe in miracles is not a realist." ~David Ben-Gurion

Would you consider a scientist a realist?   Yes?  Maybe yes, maybe no.. Scientists look for the proof, the facts, yet they also are the most creative, visionary people in the world.. looking beyond what has been achieved in the past..toward a future they have imagined. What a combination left and right brain functioning in synchronicity.

Candice Pert, PhD has written about the healing power of words and music.  She says that “what you think can be identified as networks of brain cells that fire together.  The threshold of a neuron firing .. depends on the state of sensitivity of the many thousands of receptors on it’s surface....ion channels.  Each of these canals ..are either open or closed, never in between. Spoken words, just like music vibrate these channels to close or open; thus regulate how often a neural network fires. ...the more often a neuronal network fires together the more the thought pattern is fixed at the cellular level.”*    The more this interaction repeats it’s self the more this thought pattern is engrained and extends to all cells in the body.  The thought either, positive or negative, will create a reality you either want or don’t want...In simple words..your words affect your wellbeing.  Create your own miracles.

When one lets oneself go..

One's suffering disappears when one lets oneself go, when one yields - even to sadness.

If you keep on saying things are going to be bad, you have a good chance of becoming a prophet. ~Isaac Bashevis Singer

If you keep on saying things are going to be bad, you have a good chance of becoming a prophet.  ~Isaac Bashevis Singer

Isn't that a self fulfilling prophecy that people talk about?   Does it really exist?
I believe so.  The more I read, work and watch my friends and colleagues live their lives, the more I see this to be true.    Everything you think creates the framework for who you are and how you see the world.    You have a choice to see and thus operate in a world that is full of  joy, challenges to be met, possibilities and success*  or you can see the world as defeating, oppressive and worthless.  I’m not saying that life isn’t a challenge, that we never take missteps, that we don’t have to work hard or have a plan..WE DO.. Just know that you can make your life into whatever you truly “believe” it will be.   A Belief is a thought.  What do you think?

"Grains of sand" a roadblock in Life

It isn't the mountains ahead that wear you out, it's the grain of sand in your shoe.  ~Author Unknown

That grain of sand is not any different then the limiting beliefs you may consciously or subconsciously hold in your mind.  Recorded in your mind, whether you realize it or not, is everything that has ever been said, done or occurred to or around you.   Some of this may have been meant for you, some not.   Some may be real, some not.   In any case, these beliefs shape who you are....these beliefs create a framework for what you do....the problem is that these beliefs can be damaging, especially when they are based on childhood events....and you are still listening to and living your life through a child wisdom.   Clear the messages, through forgiveness and EFT.

Could we change our attitude, we should not only see life differently, but life itself would come to be different. ~Katherine Mansfield

Could we change our attitude, we should not only see life differently, but life itself would come to be different.  ~Katherine Mansfield

You can make a change, but perhaps it's a fear of change that stops people from taking the step to get the help or find the method that will enable them to live a different life.  We are naturally prone to adapting to a pattern and no matter how uncomfortable the pattern (lifestyle) may become, the unknown can be more intimidating.....taking the steps to adjust your point of view will create a new life for you.  "You may not have control over the condition of the world but you do control the condition of your thoughts."  ESC

You never stop creating brain cells!!

Aging is a process, yet due to new research and developments we are learning that the our old ideas about aging are not totally correct.   Did you know that you are creating new brain cells daily?  This is amazing.  It has been common knowledge that stem cells (from bone marrow) become organ cells in the body, but now we know that those same stem cells also become neurons in the brain...new brain cells.     This is HUGE....You are creating new neurons...the growth of brain cells never stop, therefore you can create new pathways of thinking..."learn, change and grow, think new thoughts, change your mind, create your( the) reality" (Everything you Need to Feel Go(o)d, p.47)

Something Small

Let's not forget that the little emotions are the great captains of our lives and we obey them without realizing it. ~Vincent Van Gogh, 1889

Webster's definition:   Emotions are a conscious mental reaction (such as anger or fear) subjectively experienced as a strong feeling usually directed toward a specific object and typically accompanied by physiological and behavioral changes in the body.

All feelings are good, as a natural part of our physiology:
Dr. Pert, PhD feels that emotions (dark or light), should not be ignored, banished or suppressed and that there is harm in doing so.  Through acknowledgement  and integration to our lives, these emotions can not ambush us.
She says that, "There are no bad emotions ...only ones that are stuck (suppressed or denied)" and the suppression of these emotions will lead to a loss of cellular integrity (function, communication and production) both biologically and psychologically.  That loss of integrity presents itself in many forms in the body/mind ..dis-ease, pain, limiting beliefs or discomfort.

Unsticking those emotions through emotionally based methods such as bodywork, guided imagery, hypnosis, energy medicine and EFT gives you the freedom to your live your life authentically.

Emotion is "the flow of information perceived to be essential for the survival of any particular state of consciousness making the observation"   Everything you Need to Feel Go(o)d   p.233

1 The Psychosomatic Network

If you start to think about your physical or moral condition, you usually find that you are sick.  ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Proverbs in Prose

I used to think that the term psychosomatic meant that any disease, ache or pain you had, was really all in your head, not real, made up and false.   It wasn't a good thing.  You probably believe that to be true also...but the truth is that we do have a communication network, uniting all the systems of your body.  It is the psychosomatic network, a intercellular network and it's mode of communication is through those linking elements, informational substances known as peptides, hormones and neurotransmitters. (These are the substances that tell a cell what to do.)

Access to this system is not just though the brain, but via all sensory organs, based on the person's focus of attention.

So how is this helpful for you to know??   Just know that your thoughts and your state of relaxation have a effect on and are part of the psychosomatic network.  That your thoughts both conscious and subconscious affect the physical state of your body.   And in reality your body and mind are one.

It's OK to Love Yourself

If you must love your neighbor as yourself, it is at least as fair to love yourself as your neighbor.  ~Nicholas de Chamfort

Do you treat yourself in the way you treat others?  With respect, care and nourishment.
Do you love yourself in the way you should?

Think of how you behave toward your friends/neighbors.
When you say you are going to do something for a friend,  do you do it?
If your neighbor calls for help, do you run to assist them, lend them a hand?
If your friend/neighbor needed food, would you feed them?
If your neighbor were suffering in any way, would you find a way to comfort them and bring some joy  into their lives?   Of course you would...yet why is it that sometimes we don't take the same care of ourselves...why is it we can hear/see/feel others needs and not hear/see/feel our own.  Why is it that we may be attuned to our own needs yet do nothing about it?   Listen to your body, pay attention!! Know that it is OK to love yourself,  it's OK to pay attention to your feeling/emotions/signals and it's OK to Love yourself in the same way you would love and care for others.

Molecules of Emotion/ Everything You Need to Know to Feel Go(o)d

My original intent was to write about what I have learned from reading the book "Molecules of Emotion" by Candace Pert, Ph.D, but now I find myself reading her most recent book "Everything You Need to Know to Feel Go(o)d.  This is a fascinating read.  An accomplished, respected scientist who has made the connection between the workings of the body and the mind.. explains her research simply and clearly.  The connection comes down to the simple cell and it's workings.   The functioning of the body(mind) is directed by individual cells (their signals and reactions), based on their interaction with ligands (neurotransmitters, hormones and enzymes). This is the basis of the bodymind communication system.

Ligands are responsible for  98% of all data transfer in the body and brain. Each cell has surface receptors that move and shake creating a vibration, which will resonate with a ligand vibrating at the same frequency. At this point the binding action of the cell and ligand creates the signal for the cell to take action; grow, divide, repair etc.    This cellular vibration is a force of attraction.

Molecules of Emotion -Ligands
What you experience as a "feeling" is the attracting vibration and the connection of cell and ligand is the manifestation of that feeling.

....thinking makes it so

There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.  ~William Shakespeare, Hamlet, 1600

Everything you do, everyway you feel physically, emotionally and mentally, every action or inaction you take stems from your mindbody.   I'm not saying that everything that happens to us, or every illness that affects us is created in the mind body, but in every instance your way of thinking definitely controls your body on a cellular level and influences how you experience life.
Lets explore this concept together.
Over the next few weeks I'd like to discuss the book by Candace B. Pert, PhD,  Molecules of Emotion.

Molecules of Emotion April 2013

Candace Pert is an American neuroscientist and pharmacologist who discovered the opiate receptor, the cellular binding site for endorphins in the brain.

Before I began to write this page today, I thought that it's been a while since the book Molecules of Emotion was written (1997) and that perhaps I could find current information about Candace Pert or see her on video.  I have to say I was totally blown away..at first watching/listening to her speak was distracting, difficult..she is not the typical speaker.. she is brilliant, her mind full of ideas, connections and research.    And now she is leading a team of scientists who have created the Aids Vaccine. Brilliant..absolutely brilliant....

Listen to her speaking with Bill Moyers (1993)

Limiting beliefs-dig at the roots

When solving problems, dig at the roots instead of just hacking at the leaves.  ~Anthony J. D'Angelo, The College Blue Book

Perhaps intentionally going back into the past is so painful that the subconscious mind will not allow it.  It's really pretty amazing how your mind will make your body do anything it can to protect you, even if it is destroying you.   Your subconscious mind is protecting you....or at least it thinks it is... getting you ready to fight, or flee or freeze so that you never move forward.   This protective role of the subconscious mind is so powerful.  I have seen a clients body jolt out of a light hypnotic state, so as not to deal with the past.

But getting to the root of the problem is an effective way to clear the past and move forward into the future.  Perhaps you are not even aware (consciously) of what your limiting belief or the root issue is.  Making a change, when you don't know or understand the problem is extremely difficult in a conscious state.

This is one of the reasons why I incorporate EFT (emotional freedom technique) in my sessions.  Taking the edge off the experience and creating a safe vessel to hold the events and emotions is so effective in allowing one to get to the root without the distress.

Small stones

It all depends on how we look at things, and not on how things are in themselves.
The least of things with a meaning is worth more in life than the greatest of things without it.  ~Carl Jung

Can you think of anything in your life that had great meaning to you, yet is not what others would consider of any consequence in the larger scheme of life.

I'll give you an example:
I have a smooth, flat, gray stone, perhaps 2 inches long and 1 inch wide.  It is sitting on my desk, available to hold in my hand at any time. The stone warms in my hand I have seen these stones in shops, engraved with motivational, loving and sentimental words.  This stone is blank.  To you, it is meaningless. For me it means strength, confidence and self-love.  It was handed to me at a moment of great meaning in my life and just touching that stone brings me to a place of peace and inspiration.      Ok, ok... so what does this have to do with the quote above?   ...It all has to do with how you choose to look at things, how you choose to make meaning of life.  Whether being satisfied with what you do have in life; your strengths, your motivation, your ability to improve, grow and change, and to recognize that  positive attitudes will allow you to live a life happy, is enough....

or will you always need....no matter how much you have.

Are you making yourself sick?

The mind has great influence over the body, and maladies often have their origin there.  ~Moliere

Have you ever thought that  "it" is was all in your head?  Those aches and pains,  that constant stiffness or feeling in the pit of your stomach?   Well maybe it is.   So how do you get rid of it?  You are not consciously creating the discomfort, but your thoughts about the people, situations or events around you, now or from the past, may be at the root of this pain.    There are so many events in our lives, past and present, that produced pain, emotional or mental.  A thought, memory, aroma, or even a vague feeling of the event reoccurring will trigger a reaction.  That reaction may totally affect your well-being, demeanor, attitude and emotional state.  It can even cause physical pain.

Make a change in your thoughts.
For some "Changing the Channel" is more easily done.  For others mindful practices such as Yoga and Meditation are the key.  Another alternative is to practice Emotional Freedom Technique and/or Hypnosis.  Both these methods, help to make the disconnect,  clearing the clutter of the past and creating new ways of thinking.
